About the Photographer![]() I have been interested in photography since I was about fifteen, when my dad introduced me to the art. In high school, my classmates knew me by my camera and its ugly orange bag. I went from being a school newspaper photographer, to a yearbook photographer, to yearbook editor in chief, which allowed me to impose a policy of photo captions. :-) My senior year, I informally joined a photography class and learned to use the darkroom. This was the year when I sold my first prints, and accepted my first photo job. In undergrad, I reluctantly made the switch from 35mm film to digital. While I loved working in the darkroom, I no longer had the free access I did in high school. I also no longer had yearbook to pay for my film. I knew that going digital was the only way I'd be able to continue my hobby. Since then, I have become interested in some lesser-known methods in photography. My professor, Brian Lawler, introduced me to the wonderful world of panoramic photography, and I did my senior project on high dynamic range (HDR) photography, where several frames with varying exposures are combined to bring out highlights and shadows in a contrasty scene. My latest foray has been into infrared photography, using a filter that blocks all visible light, letting through only the infrared. |
